BOYS SOCCER

Player of the Year

Ben Pfau

Mount St. Joseph

The senior forward had a breakthrough season for the Gaels, whom he led to a share of the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference title with Loyola. Pfau, a three-year starter, had one of his best games against perennial conference power Calvert Hall, scoring a goal and assisting on another in a 3-2 victory. A second-team All-City selection as a junior when he scored no goals but assisted on 13, Pfau finished this season with 14 goals and eight assists to earn first-team All-State honors. Pfau, who has a 3.1 grade point average, is considering playing soccer at Mount St. Mary's, Towson, Frostburg or Salisbury.

Coach of the Year

Mike St. Martin

Mount St. Joseph

St. Martin, in his ninth year as head coach of the Gaels, led his team to its second Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference championship in the past five seasons. The Gaels posted a 19-4-4 record and 12 shutouts, including a scoreless, overtime tie against rival Loyola in the MIAA A Conference title game. St. Martin gained his 100th career win with the Gaels' 2-0 shutout of John Carroll on Oct. 11, and finished the season with 107 victories. St. Martin, a Calvert Hall graduate, also led the Gaels to the league title in 2001.
