Baltimore All-city

December 14, 2005

Offensive Player

Sean Price

Price rushed for 1,702 yards and scored 13 touchdowns to lead the Greyhounds to a 9-0 record and their seventh Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference title. under ninth-year coach Biff Poggi. Two of his best outings were in victories over DeMatha and St. Joseph Prep of Philadelphia, the latter in overtime, by identical scores of 22-19. Price rushed for 200 yards and two touchdowns against DeMatha, and ran for 251 yards and a touchdown and caught the game-winning, 10-yard score against St. Joseph Prep. Gilman ended the year as The Sun's No. 1-ranked team.

Defensive Player

Brian Carroll

Carroll led the Greyhounds in tackles (121), tackles for lost yardage (20), fumble recoveries (five) and forced fumbles (five). He ranked second in sacks (seven) and disrupted passes (eight), and third with two interceptions. Carroll also was the top receiver (190 yards, two touchdowns) on a run-oriented squad. Assistant coach Stan White said Carroll is "hands down, the most valuable player" on a team that outscored its last six rivals, 158-7, shutting out five opponents for an overall scoring advantage per game of 24.5 to 6.5.

Coach of the Year

Joe Holland

Holland turned around the Ducks' losing program, leading them to a 9-1 record and the Baltimore City Division II title. The defense amassed 18 interceptions, 16 fumble recoveries and 34 sacks. "Douglass was well-organized, disciplined and made few mistakes," said City coach George Petrides, who coached Holland, a former All-Metro linebacker at City. "That's a credit to Joe and his staff." But only hours after completing a 39-0 rout of Southwestern to conclude the regular season, Holland discovered his Ducks would have to forfeit the season for using an academically ineligible player.
