Roch Around The Clock

I just received my Orioles season-ticket renewal form in the mail. Interesting slogan they've come up with for 2006: "Hey, we've only had one arrest."

Javy Lopez has decided that he'd be better served in another uniform next year, since he won't be the everyday catcher with Ramon Hernandez signing a four-year deal. The man made it clear during the summer that he didn't want to be a DH. Was that suddenly supposed to change?

If the Orioles were serious about moving Lopez to first base, at least part time, shouldn't they have begun that experiment in September, with another losing season in the books and Rafael Palmeiro in Texas? There's no way manager Sam Perlozzo wanted Lopez behind the plate on a regular basis in 2006. That much was clear when Perlozzo was asked about his decision to give backup Geronimo Gil another start. Perlozzo said something about wanting to see what Gil could do, and then added, "We already know what Javy can do."
