A front-page item that appeared in some editions yesterday misstated Eugene J. McCarthy's showing in the 1968 New Hampshire Democratic primary. He finished second to President Lyndon B. Johnson, but his strong showing dramatized growing opposition to the Vietnam War and helped lead to Johnson's decision not to seek another term.
