Breakfast with Santa in Savage

The Savage Volunteer Fire Company will sponsor "Breakfast with Santa" from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the fire company's social hall, 8925 Lincoln St., Savage.

Eggs, pancakes, sausage, coffee, orange juice and milk will be served.

The cost is $6 for adults; $3 for children to age 10.

Patuxent refuge sets new hours

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Patuxent Research Refuge is changing its public hours and visitor service programs.

The North Tract entrance will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The National Wildlife Visitor Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, this month through February. Regular hours, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., will resume from March through November. The refuge will continue to close on federal holidays.

Bird watchers and hikers will still be able to use the trails near the visitor center early mornings after sunrise. The grounds close when the center closes.

The National Wildlife Visitor Center is on Powder Mill Road, between the Baltimore-Washington Parkway and Route 197, south of Laurel.

The North Tract entrance is off Route 198 between the Baltimore-Washington Parkway and Route 32.

Holiday workshops -- The South Laurel Recreation Council is accepting registration for its holiday workshops, offered through Dec. 20. Workshops are available for children, teens, adults and families at Montpelier Carriage House and Deerfield Run Community Center in south Laurel. The workshops include instruction in making pop-up cards, a fleece throw, an evergreen wreath, sugar-plum cottage, desk-top calendar, beaded icicle ornaments, gift tags and fresh flower arrangements. Successful clothing -- Sandy's Repeat Performance, a consignment men's and women's clothing resale shop in Historic Savage Mill, is holding a fundraiser for Success in Style, a nonprofit organization that provides free business attire and fashion advice to disadvantaged women looking to enter or re-enter the work force.
