Patricia H. Lohr, 71, director of religious education

Patricia Herbert Lohr, a former director of religious education and Baltimore schoolteacher, died of respiratory failure Nov. 27 at Chester County Hospital, West Chester, Pa. She was 71.

Born and raised in Northeast Baltimore's Hamilton neighborhood, Patricia Herbert graduated from the Institute of Notre Dame in 1952 and earned a degree in elementary education in 1956 from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland. She became an elementary schoolteacher in the Baltimore school system, where she worked for about two years. In 1958, she married Riley Lohr and spent 20 years as a homemaker. The couple separated in 1981.

In the early 1980s she received her master's degree in social welfare and her Confraternity of Christian Doctrine certificate as a master catechist.

She became a director of religious education at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Kennett Square, Pa., in 1992. She retired in 2003.

A memorial Mass is set for 10 a.m. Dec. 28 at St. Patrick Church.

Mrs. Lohr is survived by a brother, Ronald Murdoch Herbert Sr. of Bel Air; five sons, Paul Lenox Riley Lohr III and Martin Patrick Lohr, both of Nashville, Tenn., Kevin Murdoch Lohr of Tucson, Ariz., Terrance Gregory Lohr of Philadelphia, and Christopher Robert Lohr of Pottstown, Pa.; and two grandchildren.
