THOMAS J. ELLWOOD, having demonstrated a diversified career in law enforcement, insurance administration and real estate, died suddenly from an automobile accident on November 18, 2005 in Salisbury, MD. The longtime Baltimore resident was 66. Born and raised in Govans, he attended the Citadel on a basketball scholarship. After graduating high school Mr. Ellwood entered the service in 1960 and worked for the intelligence department for the Fort Holydbard. He earned his law degree from Baltimore University while simultaneously serving as a Baltimore City police officer. In 1965 he became a special agent for the FBI in Wisconsin, eventually serving as the Director of Law Enforcement Planning for the Fox Valley Council of Government. He later transferred back to Maryland to head the Law Enforcement Administration Assistance Program for the entire Baltimore Metro area. Mr. Ellwood worked for the FBI for 16 years. In 1983 he became co-owner and broker for the Benson & Whales Real Estate Co in St. Michaels, MD., while also serving as treasurer and secretary of the Benson & Whales Insurance Co. In 1990 Tom married his beloved wife & best friend Michelle "Mikie" (Neubert) Ellwood. Tom loved the water and the Eastern Shore and eventually settled with his wife in Ocean City, MD. In semi-retirement, Tom enjoyed travel and spending time with Mikie, but what he enjoyed most was surrounding theirselves with family and friends. From coach to player to spectator, Tom was a sports enthusiast and the MVP to everyone. One of Tom's greatest personal honors was being named Exalted Ruler of Towson Elks Lodge 469 ('93-'94). Tom was looking forward to retirement with his wife and had intended to join family and friends in St. Pete Beach, FL in January 2006.
