Sign-up for 2-week winter term under way at community college

Registration is under way for Anne Arundel Community College's winter two-week term for teachers, business employees, health professionals and students to receive training and advance their education. Classes begin Jan. 3 and end with finals Jan. 13.

Teachers and education students can choose from five courses formed to fit busy professional schedules. Telecourses are also offered. Information: 410-777-2222.

Applications are being accepted for McAuliffe Teacher Award

Applications are being accepted for the Sharon Christa McAuliffe Memorial Teacher Education Award. The program, by the Maryland Higher Education Commission, is open to undergraduate students with at least 60 semester credit hours, graduate students, or teachers who are currently certified in a noncritical shortage area. The program is open to degree-seeking Maryland residents enrolled as graduates or undergraduates at a four-year Maryland college or university. 11th-grade students can serve in county government for a day

Anne Arundel County has announced the kickoff of the "County Executive/Councilperson for a Day" and Model Government Program.

The contest is open to all 11th-graders who live in the county. Eight students will be chosen to fill the duties of the county executive and the County Council for a day. In addition, 30 students will be chosen to serve in the Model Government Administration as department heads, police and fire chiefs and members of the executive staff. Students who want to enter must submit a short essay describing what they want to accomplish if given the chance to serve the Anne Arundel County government.

The deadline for entries is 5 p.m. Dec. 16. The event will take place Feb. 21.

Community college crafts show to benefit Health Services office

Anne Arundel Community College will hold a holiday crafts show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Student Union dining hall on the Arnold campus. The free event is sponsored by AACC Health Services and features crafts, gifts and artwork. Proceeds will benefit the Health Services office, which offers free health education programs.

AACC schedules two sessions on admissions and financial aid

Anne Arundel Community College will hold admissions information sessions from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Dec. 12 at the Center for Applied Learning and Technology, Room 107 on the Arnold campus. The sessions will provide information about academic opportunities, admissions, financial aid, student life and academic support. Information: 410-777-2246.
