Shadow Block to hold auditions for `Guitar'

Shadow Block Productions, a community theater specializing in musicals for small casts, will hold its second round of auditions for the musical Johnny Guitar at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at Drama Learning Center, 9130 Red Branch Road.

The cast will consist of two women and seven men of varying ages. Those auditioning should be age 18 or older and come prepared to sing and read from a satiric script. Performances are planned from Feb. 16 to March 4 at Drama Learning Center.

The play will be directed by Ellicott City resident Brian Best; the musical director is Aaron Broderick. Choreography is by Tina DeSimone.

Holiday fair set at Hammond High

Hammond High School's technology education and art departments will sponsor a Holiday Arts and Crafts Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the school, 8800 Guilford Road. Vendors will sell their goods and students' art and crafts will be for sale.

Teen Center offering workshop for girls

The Columbia Teen Center, 5851 Robert Oliver Place, in Oakland Mills Village Center, will offer a six-week workshop for girls ages 11 to 17 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, beginning Jan. 10.

The class, which will be taught by Dress to Impress, will cover skin, hair and nail care; makeup, fashion coordination, personal hygiene, tips about personality, manners and more. The session will culminate in a professional fashion show.

The cost is $250 for Columbia residents; $300 for nonresidents.

Completes training -- Navy Seaman Apprentice Nathan E. Anderson, a 2004 graduate of Hammond High School, has completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.

Senior Lights Tour -- The Long Reach, Hickory Ridge and Owen Brown community associations will sponsor a Holiday Lights tour for senior citizens from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 11. The free event will include a bus tour through the Symphony of Lights display and a reception. Buses will pick up seniors at Longwood House, Hickory Ridge Place and Owen Brown Place. Pilates classes -- Long Reach Community Association will offer Pilates exercise classes for adults from 7:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 10 through Feb. 28, at 8775 Cloudleap Court.
