CA holding meeting on board procedures

An organizational meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the small conference room at Columbia Association headquarters, 10221 Wincopin Circle.

The goal will be to establish a task force to review procedures followed by the association's board of directors and recommend improvements.

Salvation Army seeks volunteers

The Salvation Army needs volunteers to assist with its holiday fund-raising and toy distributions.

Individuals, families, religious and civic groups and community organizations are needed to sort and distribute toys, donate and distribute Christmas meals and food baskets to the poor and homeless, and participate in other charitable activities.

Residents to discuss budget priorities

Howard County Executive James N. Robey invites residents to discuss their priorities at his first citizens' budget meeting for the fiscal 2007 budget cycle, to be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Banneker Room of the George Howard Building, 3430 Court House Drive, Ellicott City.

Those who want to testify must sign up in person and individually. Sign-up will begin at 6:30 p.m.; testimony will be heard in the order in which people sign up.

Rebuilding Together plans fundraiser

Rebuilding Together with Christmas in April is holding its end-of-the-year fundraiser, a "Tiny Tot Playhouse Raffle" for a 6- by-8-foot Victorian playhouse with a 2-foot deck and railing, fully furnished and professionally decorated.

Raffle tickets will be on sale through Dec. 16; the drawing will be held Dec. 17.

The playhouse can be seen from noon to 4 p.m. today at Safeway in the Long Gate Shopping Center; at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Howard County Aglow in Centennial Park South; from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Dorsey's Search Village Center; and 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 11 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3604 Frederick Road, Ellicott City.

Tickets, which cost $10 each or $20 for three, can be purchased at each of these locations. They are also on sale at Kendall's Hardware in Clarksville, Clark's ACE Hardware in Ellicott City and at the Howard County Office on Aging, 6751 Columbia Gateway Drive, Columbia.

The Howard County chapter of Christmas in April (now known as Rebuilding Together with Christmas in April of Howard County) was founded in 1991. Its mission is to preserve and revitalize houses and communities in Howard County.

Volunteer center's gift guide online

The Volunteer Center Serving Howard County's "Holiday Gift Guide 2005" is available on the center's Web site, www.volun teerhoward.org, and on the Columbia Association Web site, www.columbiaassocia tion.com.

The guide highlights the needs of more than 50 nonprofit and governmental organizations for volunteers and donations of warm clothing, furniture, unwrapped toys, nonperishable foods, small appliances, gift certificates and other items. Volunteers are also needed to help with holiday parties, wrapping gifts and other activities.

Free copies of the Holiday Gift Guide 2005 are also available.

Talk with Robey slated Tuesday

The Association of Community Services will hold its "Conversation with Howard County Executive James N. Robey" from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Meeting House in Oakland Mills Village Center, 5885 Robert Oliver Place, Columbia.

Discussion will focus on how issues related to housing, transportation, health and mental health, access to services and other human service issues will be addressed in the coming year. The new Human Services Plan will also be discussed, and there will be an opportunity for questions.

Artist to host fundraiser today

Tatiana, a Howard County artist, will be host of a fundraiser for the Women's Giving Circle from noon to 5 p.m. today.

Twenty percent of proceeds from purchases made at Tatiana's studio during those hours will be donated to the Women's Giving Circle. Purchasers must mention the Women's Giving Circle at the time of purchase.

The studio is at 14290 Triadelphia Road, Glenelg.

Hospital auxiliary to hold book sale

The Howard County General Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary will sponsor a sale of new books and gifts from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in the hospital's main lobby.

Proceeds will go to the hospital's expansion program. Howard County General Hospital is at 5755 Cedar Lane, Columbia.

Help is available for caregivers

Grandparents as Parents (GAP) is providing information, referrals, financial assistance and other services for those caring for a relative's child.

The program, which is open to grandparents and other relatives who are caregivers, has been providing services to "relative caregivers," including those raising children placed with them by an agency, since 1997.
