Bon Secours Spiritual Center in Marriottsville is offering programs to the community.

An Advent Quiet Weekend will run from 5 p.m. Friday to 11 a.m. Dec. 11. Participants will focus on the meaning of Christmas through prayer, reflection and individual spiritual direction. The cost is $175.

An Advent/Christmas concert, featuring the Starfire Artists, will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday. Families are welcome. A donation is requested.

The center is at 1525 Marriottsville Road. Registration is required.

Mothers group plans activities

Moms on the Move, a Carroll County community group for stay-at-home mothers and their children, offers regular activities.

This month's activities include a trip to My Gym on Tuesday, moms-only bingo night Friday, caroling and a nursing home visit at 10 a.m. Dec. 15, and Playwise Kids on Dec. 23.

The monthly social and holiday party will be held at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 14 at Wesley Freedom Church on Johnsville Road in Eldersburg. Santa Claus will visit, and there will be holiday crafts and seasonal games. Items will be collected for Toys for Tots.

Nature center offers programs

Piney Run Nature Center is offering programs for all ages.

A Trip to Brandywine River Museum from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 12. The museum in Chadds Ford, Pa., is known for its collection of three generations of Wyeth art. It will be decorated for the holidays. Lunch will be in the museum cafeteria and the gift shop will be open. The cost is $25 for members and $27 for nonmembers.

A Black-Footed Ferret Foray for the family at 7 p.m. Dec. 13. Desserts and a lecture by Helen Tarbert on the endangered animal will be featured. The cost is $3 for members and $4 for nonmembers.

Children's Holiday Craft Workshop for youngsters ages 6 to 14 from 10 a.m. to noon on Dec. 17. Holiday snacks, music, and crafts, wrapping paper and gift-making will be featured. The cost is $6 for members and $7 for nonmembers.

Eldersburg library lists activities

The Eldersburg branch library, 6400 W. Hemlock Drive, is offering:

Teen Winter Crafts at 7 p.m. tomorrow. Gift boxes and winter decorations will be made.

Baby's Signing Day at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday for babies to age 2. Caregivers will be given information about appropriate signing and activities for babies. A playtime will be held afterward.

Sign and Dance at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday for ages 2 to 3. Kathy MacMillan will lead the movement-based program with stories, music and activities for parents and children.

Drop-in Crafts for all ages (3 and younger with an adult) from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Homeschoolers Hour: "Snow and Ice" for ages 7 to 10 at 2 p.m. Thursday. Siblings are welcome.

Holiday Baking and Cookie Exchange at 7 p.m. Dec. 12 for adults. Participants will learn to make a gingerbread house and swap cookies. Please take six dozen cookies (no chocolate chips), extra cookies for sampling, a container and your recipe. Registration is required.
