Tree lighting to feature holiday songs

Ensemble pupils from New Windsor Middle School will sing holiday songs at the tree-lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the New Windsor Town Park, routes 31 and 75.

School to sponsor family reading event

Runnymede Elementary School's Title I Program will sponsor a family event, "Recipes for Reading: Let's Build a Gingerbread House," from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the cafeteria.

After a family dinner, presentations will be given on grade-level reading expectations and games families can use at home. Each family will receive a "Recipes for Reading" kit to take home.

Children will decorate a "Whisper Phone" and have a story time. The evening will end with families learning how to build a gingerbread house.

Senior center sets December activities

Taneytown Senior Center, 220 Roberts Mill Road, has announced activities for this month.

The Carroll County Health Department will present a talk on arthritis at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The Site Council will meet at 1:05 p.m. Wednesday. Afterward, a meeting will be held for anyone interested in being on a trip committee.

A holiday program with local 3- and 4-year-olds will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Santa and Mrs. Claus also will visit.

The Lunch Ole Spanish class will hold a "Feliz Navidad" holiday program at 11 a.m. Friday.

The annual cookie exchange will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 15. Participants should bring four dozen cookies (three dozen to exchange and one dozen for dessert for the Christmas party at 11:30 a.m.).

Firefighters to hold New Year's Eve party

The New Windsor Fire and Hose Company No. 1 will hold a New Year's Eve party Dec. 31 at the new fire hall, 101 High St.

Doors will open at 8 p.m. Serious Jokers will begin playing music at 9 p.m.

Tickets are $30 per person or $50 per couple and include beer, set-ups and a continental breakfast.

Attendees must be age 21 or older.

Tickets are available at the firehouse from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Library schedules book club, crafts

The Taneytown library branch, 10 Grand Drive, will offer:

Teen Online Book Club this month to read and discuss Storky: How I Lost My Nickname and Won the Girl by D.L. Garfinkle at teens.carr.org.

"Holiday Crafts: Make Decorations" from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. to noon Friday for all ages (3 and younger with an adult). Children will make seasonal crafts.

Keysville Evangelical Lutheran -- Worship for the second Sunday in Advent with Holy Communion will be held at 10:30 a.m. today with Deacon Charles Barnhart's message, "In the Wilderness."
