1940: Draft quota - 2 brothers

Two brothers made up the total of Howard County's first draft quota. Andrew and Henry Ridgely of Mayfield volunteered for military service, even though they held high draft lottery numbers. On the November day the brothers reported for duty, they were ceremoniously escorted to the Ellicott City railroad station, where many well-wishers cheered them as they boarded the train for Baltimore.
