Family night to benefit Katrina victims

November 27, 2005

Bushy Park Elementary School PTA's Family Fun Committee will sponsor a Family Fun Night at 6 p.m. Dec. 9 in the cafeteria and gymnasium at Bushy Park Elementary School, 2670 Route 97, Glenwood.

The event will benefit Books for the Bayou's Babies, an effort to provide books for children who lost theirs in Hurricane Katrina. Children will have an opportunity to purchase books (and get a free book for each one purchased) from Scholastic; elementary school-level paperbacks will be donated.

Each book will be imprinted with the first name of the child who purchased it. Purchasers will make a frame for a certificate that recognizes their donation and can be given to parents or others as a holiday gift.

At 7 p.m. the children will watch The Polar Express.

Bushy Park's Family Fun Committee is chaired by Elizabeth Bacon, Gina Pearson, Cindy Wright and Diana McAuley.

"We decided that we would do this because we are a very fortunate community, and there are so many people out there that are in greater need than we are," Bacon said.
