CENTRAL

Christmas basket bingo slated Friday

The Reese & Community Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary will hold a Christmas basket bingo Friday at the fire hall, 1745 Baltimore Blvd., Westminster.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the kitchen will open at 6 p.m. for food sales, including shrimp platters, barbecue and hot dogs. Games begin at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $10 and include one pack of cards.

Lutheran Village to hold holiday sale

The Friends of Carroll Lutheran Village will hold its annual Village Holiday from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday in the 205 St. Mark Way Dining Room in Westminster.

A pancake breakfast will be served from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tickets are $5.50 for adults and $3 for children 6 and younger.

Deer Park plans breakfast, bazaar

Deer Park United Methodist Church will hold a pancake breakfast and Christmas bazaar Saturday in the church hall at Deer Park Road and Route 32, Smallwood.

Breakfast will be served from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Food will be available at noon.

The bazaar, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., will feature crafts, baskets, baked goods, vendors, greenery, books and a drawing.

Parade scheduled Sat. in Westminster

Downtown Westminster will hold a Holiday Parade at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Santa Claus will be available for visits at Locust Lane afterward.

Participating downtown merchants will be open for Starlight Shopping until 10 p.m.

Bear Branch offers activities for all

Bear Branch Nature Center, 300 John Owings Road, Westminster, offers activities for all ages and interests.

A Morning Bird Walk for ages 10 to adult will be taken from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday. Bring binoculars and a field guide to search for different species of birds. The cost is $1 for members and $2 for nonmembers.

The Camping and Conservation Club for teens in grades nine to 12 will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Westminster library events scheduled

Westminster branch library, 50 E. Main St., will offer:

"Make Christmas and Hanukkah Gift Bags" at 7 p.m. Wednesday for teens and adults. Registration is required.

"Teen Online Book Club" during December to read and discuss Storky: How I Lost My Nickname and Won the Girl by D.L. Garfinkle at teens.carr.org.

School plans movies, blood drive

Manchester Elementary School is offering Movies With Mom for pupils and their mothers from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday.

The Red Cross will conduct a blood drive at the school from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 10 in the cafeteria. The goal is to schedule 100 donors. Pupils will be taking home pledge sheets for donors.

Pupils who sign up or recruit one blood donor will receive a red armband from the Red Cross.

Donors also may call 800-GIVE- LIFE (800-448-3543) to schedule an appointment. All participants will receive a Red Cross T-shirt. For questions about eligibility, call 800-272-2048.

Nature center lists activities

Charlotte's Quest Nature Center is open from noon to 5 p.m. the first and third Sunday of each month at 3400 Wilhelm Lane, Manchester.

The center offers exhibits and activities for all ages. Field trips may be arranged by appointment only.

Upcoming activities include:

Outdoor classroom for ages 5 to 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Dec. 8. Home-schooled children and others can learn about nature and natural science. This month's topic will be animal adaptations. The cost is $2 for members and $3 for nonmembers.

Nature Nook for ages 2 to 6 at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 9. Crafts, hands-on experiences, stories, hikes and live animals will be featured. The cost is $1 for members and $2 for nonmembers.

Earth Kids Club for ages 8 to 16 meets from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 9. Children learn about different issues relating to the environment. The cost is $2.

Rudisill completes Navy deployment

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Jeffrey F. Rudisill recently returned from a deployment on the guided missile cruiser USS Normandy, based in Norfolk, Va.

He is the son of Brenda and James Rudisill of Aspen Run. The 1987 graduate of North Carroll High School joined the Navy in November 1989.

Mount Airy plans holiday celebration

Mount Airy Main Street Association will hold a Main Street Christmas from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.
