Schedule set for flu vaccinations

The Anne Arundel County Department of Health has updated its schedule for flu vaccinations:

Monday, 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., vaccine will be provided at the Severn Fire Station, 7860 Telegraph Road, Severn.

Thursday, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., FluMist nasal spray will be provided to healthy county residents, ages 5 to 49 only (not for pregnant women), in the lower level of the Health Services Building, 3 Harry S. Truman Parkway, Annapolis.

Dec. 12, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., vaccine will be provided on the lower level of the Health Services Building.

The Department of Health will also provide flu vaccines for children 6 months and older and adults by appointment. Contact the Glen Burnie Health Center (410-222-6633) or the Parole Health Center (410-222-7247) to schedule an appointment. Vaccinations are free, though a $20 donation is encouraged. Medicare Part B cards may be used to cover the donation.

Medical center offers yoga classes

Anne Arundel Medical Center is offering the following yoga classes:

Beginning Yoga, the basics of Hatha yoga, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, or 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays.

Continuing Yoga, an intermediate class, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays.

Children's Yoga, an introduction to yoga for children ages 6 to 11, 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Saturdays next month and January.

Mommy and Me, which covers postpartum issues in strengthening the pelvis, abdominal muscles and core alignment, 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Fridays.

Therapeutic Yoga, which covers comfort levels, breathing exercises and focus, 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesdays, and 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursdays.

Prenatal Yoga, designed for expectant mothers (all trimesters are welcome, but physician's consent is required), 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Saturdays.

Classes are $10 each and will be held on the second floor of the Sajak Pavilion. Information: 800-MD-NURSE or askaamc.org.

Harbor Hospital support groups

Harbor Hospital of Baltimore offers the following support groups:

Adult Day Care Center: Medical day care for frail, elderly and mentally handicapped adults. 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. 410-350-8260.

Lung Cancer Support Group: For those with lung cancer diagnoses and their families. 7 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month, LifeResource Center Library. 410-350-3163.

Arm-in-Arm: For breast cancer patients and their families, 7 p.m. third Tuesdays, LifeResource Center Library. 410-987-4316.

Bay Bridge Breathers: For people with emphysema, chronic bronchitis and pulmonary fibrosis. Noon, second Mondays, Life- Resource Center Auditorium.

Harbor Hikers: Informal walk-on-your-own program for people seeking heart-healthy exercise. 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., with free blood pressure screenings from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. every Tuesday, The Centre at Glen Burnie. Information: 410-350-2563.

Medical center offers activities

Anne Arundel Medical Center will be offering the following activities:

Dec. 6, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., introduction to Reiki class, showing how to reduce stress and pain, second floor, Sajak Pavilion. Fee: $25. 800-636-8773.

Dec. 8 and Jan. 12, 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., class on maintaining a healthy neck and back, second floor, Sajak Pavilion. Fee: $30.

Dec. 15 and Jan. 19, 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., power walk through Westfield Shoppingtown Annapolis. Participants will receive a free blood pressure screening and health information. Information and registration: 800-MD-NURSE, or ask.aamc.org.

Baltimore Washington Medical Center has scheduled screenings and exhibits at its Arundel Mills storefront:

Tomorrow, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., blood pressure screenings.

Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., foot screenings.

Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., blood pressure screenings.

Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., computerized neck, back screenings.

Dec. 5, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., blood pressure and anemia screenings, story time for parents and children from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Dec. 6, 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., discussion on stress and diabetes.

Dec. 8, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., foot screenings.

Dec. 12, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., blood pressure screenings.

Dec. 15, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., blood pressure and lung capacity screenings.
