Parents' Guide

November 25, 2005|By ORLANDO SENTINEL

Rating -- PG.

What it's about -- Two huge families merge when the widowed parents marry.

The Kid Attractor Factor -- Kids doing what kids do, with paint, food, water hoses and the like.

Good lessons/bad lessons -- Parents deserve to be happy, too. And there is such a thing as too much "freedom" for kids.

Violence -- Slapstick.

Language -- One minor offense.

Sex -- Discussed, joked about.

Drugs -- A beer bust.

Parents' advisory -- Perfectly benign stuff, just like the original, but more a baby-sitter movie than one the adults will want to sit through.

Rating -- PG-13.

What it's about -- Former fat teen comes home and tries to win the girl who wanted to be "just friends" in high school.

The Kid Attractor Factor -- Ryan Reynolds, the hot and hilarious Anna Faris and lots of semi-raunchy hijinks.

Good lessons/bad lessons -- You can't go home again. Even if you used to be fat and are all buff now.

Violence -- Slaps and hockey sticks.

Language -- You work in the music business, you learn to cuss.

Sex -- Toyed with and talked about, endlessly.

Drugs -- Booze is abused.

Parents' advisory -- A trifle raunchy for younger kids, but sweet-spirited and only mildly sexual.

Motion Picture Association of America ratings: are (G) for general audiences; (PG) parental guidance urged because of material possibly unsuitable for children; (PG-13) parents are strongly cautioned to give guidance for attendance of children younger than 13; (R) restricted, younger than 17 admitted only with parent or adult guardian; (NC-17) no one younger than 17 admitted.
