Music talk and party

The lowdown -- After the Baltimore Music Conference was rained out, several local venues agreed to host BMC bands and lectures in the coming weeks. At 8 p.m. Wednesday, Ryleigh's Pub will offer a BMC lecture followed by a networking party. Mike Nestor will talk about how to record and release records on a small budget. Other lectures at Ryleigh's will be on Dec. 7 and 14.

Blues concert

The lowdown -- Renowned blues guitarist Hubert Sumlin performs Saturday with the Nighthawks at the Baltimore Blues Society's Blues Challenge. Four other bands, Nightstreet, Johnnie and the Lowdowns, Blues on Board and Charles "Big Daddy" Stallings, will also compete for a trip to the International Blues Challenge in Memphis.

Ali Ryerson

The lowdown -- Jazz flutist Ali Ryerson will perform at Maryland Hall's Emerging Artist Showcase on Wednesday. Ryerson, who has played at jazz festivals internationally, will take the stage with the Rob Levit Trio.
