Jaren Maybin, a 5-foot-10, 180-pounder, carried the ball 45 times for 262 yards and scores of 1, 4 and 28 yards in Saturday's 21-0, Class 3A North regional semifinal victory over previously unbeaten Baltimore City Division II champion Carver (10-1). Maybin's effort raised his single-season rushing total to a state-leading 2,235 yards and 25 touchdowns, eclipsing the school record of 2,009 established in 1999 by Steve Matthews.

Maybin's effort came on the heels of a season-high 264-yard, two-touchdown effort in a 17-14 overtime win over Baltimore County 4A-3A League rival Woodlawn, a game in which his 51 carries were two shy of the state mark of 53 accomplished by Gilman's Malcolm Ruff in 2000.

With Maybin in the lineup, Catonsville has reached the postseason the past two years - the only times in school history in which the Comets have made the playoffs.

Others considered: James Cotton, Perry Hall, football; Daniel Hostetler, River Hill, football; Jimmy Ravenscroft, Western Tech, football.
