Situation

Steelers' ball, second-and-nine at their 47-yard line

Play

The Steelers had seized the momentum, scoring a touchdown on their previous possession, and were driving for an attempt at a game-winning field goal. Steelers quarterback Tommy Maddox (8) dropped back to pass and looked to his right for receiver Hines Ward (86), who was covered tightly by Chris McAlister (21). The ball hit Ward in the hands, and as he was falling back he kicked the ball toward the middle of the field. Defensive end Terrell Suggs (55), who initially tried to knock down the pass, quickly reacted to the airborne ball. Suggs laid out and made a diving interception at the Ravens' 44.

Aftermath

The Ravens' defense held two more times in the overtime, and the offense drove 30 yards to set up Matt Stover's game-winning, 44-yard field goal.
