Games of the week

COLTS (9-0) @ BENGALS (7-2)

TIME, TV -- 4:15 p.m., chs. 13, 9

LINE -- Colts by 6

SKINNY -- Two years ago in November, the Bengals ambushed a 9-0 Chiefs team in the Jungle. If lightning strikes twice, it will have to be with their defense, which has 20 interceptions among 29 takeaways. The more likely scenario, however, is that Edgerrin James has his sixth straight 100-yard rushing game.

PICK -- Colts

PANTHERS (7-2) @ BEARS (6-3)

TIME -- 1 p.m.

LINE -- Panthers by 3

SKINNY -- The Panthers have capitalized on a soft schedule to build a six-game winning streak. The Bears are not soft. This should come down to which quarterback - Carolina's Jake Delhomme or Kyle Orton - makes the big play and which one makes the big mistake.

PICK -- Panthers

BUCS (6-3) @ FALCONS (6-3)

TIME -- 1 p.m.

LINE -- Falcons by 6

SKINNY -- The Falcons were embarrassed at home last week by Green Bay, perhaps because they were caught looking ahead. Buccaneers QB Chris Simms made huge strides against the Redskins.

PICK -- Falcons

Worth seeing

EAGLES (4-5) @ GIANTS (6-3)

TIME -- 1 p.m.

LINE -- Giants by 7

SKINNY -- On a short week, with a new QB, the Eagles have to rebound from a devastating loss. Not likely.

PICK -- Giants

JAGUARS (6-3) @ TITANS (2-7)

TIME -- 1 p.m.

LINE -- Jaguars by 4

SKINNY -- The Jaguars won in Nashville last year to end a five-game losing streak to the Titans, then lost to them at home.

PICK -- Titans

DOLPHINS (3-6) @ BROWNS (3-6)

TIME -- 1 p.m.

LINE -- Browns by 2 1/2

SKINNY -- The Dolphins' rebuilding project is slightly ahead of the Browns' project because Miami has more players in place.

PICK -- Dolphins

BILLS (4-5) @ CHARGERS (5-4)

TIME -- 4:15 p.m.

LINE -- Chargers by 11

SKINNY -- The Bills are 0-4 on the road this year. Worse yet, their strength, the running game, matches up with the Chargers' strength, run defense.

PICK -- Chargers

LIONS (4-5) @ COWBOYS (6-3)

TIME -- 1 p.m.

LINE -- Cowboys by 7 1/2

SKINNY -- The Cowboys were a beaten team for 57 minutes in Philadelphia. They shouldn't need late scores this week.

PICK -- Cowboys

SAINTS (2-7) @ PATRIOTS (5-4)

TIME -- 1 p.m.

LINE -- Patriots by 9 1/2

SKINNY -- The Patriots' battered secondary is vulnerable, and Saints QB Aaron Brooks is capable. But New England is 40-6 after Nov. 1 since 2001, including the postseason.

PICK -- Patriots

Easy to miss

JETS (2-7) @ BRONCOS (7-2)

TIME -- 4:15 p.m.

LINE -- Broncos by 13

SKINNY -- The Jets' resolve finally snapped in a bad loss at Carolina. There will be repercussions if they continue to lose big down the stretch.

PICK -- Broncos

CARDINALS (2-7) @ RAMS (4-5)

TIME -- 1 p.m.

LINE -- Rams by 9 1/2

SKINNY -- The Rams are fighting for a wild-card spot; the Cardinals don't have much fight in them.

PICK -- Rams

SEAHAWKS (7-2) @ 49ERS (2-7)

TIME, TV -- 4:05 p.m., chs. 45, 5

LINE -- Seahawks by 13

SKINNY -- The Seahawks face the 49ers twice in four weeks. That's two easy wins.

PICK -- Seahawks

CHIEFS (5-4) @ TEXANS (1-8)

TIME, TV -- 8:30 p.m., ESPN

LINE -- Chiefs by 7

SKINNY -- The Chiefs can't afford any more slips.

PICK -- Chiefs
