Sarah M. Dwyer, 80, artist and homemaker

Sarah M. Dwyer, a homemaker and artist, died of cancer Saturday at a retirement community in Kennett Square, Pa. The former Chestertown resident was 80.

She was born Sarah Moffett in Betterton and raised in Ardmore, Pa. She earned a bachelor's degree from the former Western Maryland College in 1946 and studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art.

After her 1948 marriage to Dr. Frank P. Dwyer Jr., an otolaryngologist, the couple moved to Catonsville. They later resided in Homeland and Ruxton before moving to Renovo, Pa., in 1980, after Dr. Dwyer retired.

After her husband's death in 1984, Mrs. Dwyer settled in Chestertown and remained there until moving to Kennett Square in 1999.

She was an accomplished artist who worked in pastels and watercolors, and enjoyed still-life painting. She also liked gardening and flower arranging.

A memorial Mass was offered Wednesday in Greenville, Del.

Survivors include two sons, Kevin C. Dwyer of Bethesda and Patrick N. Dwyer of Cooperstown, N.Y.; four daughters, Therese Dwyer Russell of Bryn Mawr, Pa., Ellen Dwyer Vandover of Gaithersburg, Martha Dwyer Hoffmann of Cedar Knolls, N.J. and Brigid Dwyer Denny of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a sister, Patricia A. Seitzer of Chestertown; and 15 grandchildren.
