Dialogue Group sets meeting Dec. 23

The Howard County Economic Development Authority's Business Resource Center will hold a Dialogue Group meeting at 7:45 a.m. Dec. 23 at the Center for Business and Technology Development, 9250 Bendix Road North, Columbia.

The group provides an informal round-table to provide guidance and support to newly formed businesses. Participation is free.

The Business Resource Center and its affiliates provide assistance in business management, from planning and financing to marketing and networking. Partners include the Service Corps of Retired Executives (counselors to small businesses); Small Business Development Center; Jim Rouse Entrepreneurial Fund and other business counselors.

Firm pledges $50,000 to Grassroots

Ascend One Corp. has pledged $50,000 to Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center in Columbia for its $4.5 million renovation and expansion campaign.

Grassroots, a nonprofit human services agency, provides 24-hour crisis intervention services that include hot lines, walk-in counseling and the county-funded mobile crisis team and emergency shelter program.

The renovations will expand the Grassroots facility from less than 9,000 square feet to more than 20,000 square feet and increase the number of beds for individuals and families from 32 to 55. A new living room and dining room, a children's playground, more counseling rooms and repair to the kitchen and plumbing are also planned.

Ascend One Corp., the parent of a group of companies that offer services to help relieve or resolve consumer debt, encourages civic involvement, volunteerism and charitable giving among its employees. Lourdes Tirado Ward, an employee relations specialist for Ascend One, is on the Grassroots board of directors.

Holiday fundraiser planned Nov. 29

The Baltimore/Washington Corridor Chamber of Commerce and the Baltimore/Washington Corridor Chamber Foundation will hold their holiday fundraiser from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 29 in the Great Room at Historic Savage Mill, 8600 Foundry St., Savage.

Proceeds from the event, which will include networking opportunities, will help pay for scholarships for high school students and other educational programs.
