Mabel M. Shaffer, 93, homemaker, choral groups singer

Mabel M. Shaffer, a homemaker and singer who performed with several choral groups, died of heart failure Nov. 10 at Hanover General Hospital in Hanover, Pa. The lifelong Carroll County resident was 93.

Born Mabel Margaret Wentz in Manchester, she was a 1930 graduate of Manchester High School. She also was a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of Music and attended what is now McDaniel College.

A soprano, Mrs. Shaffer sang with choral groups in Carroll and Baltimore counties and enjoyed playing the piano.

She was a longtime communicant and choir member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Manchester, and an active member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Women's Association.

She liked collecting antiques, reading and traveling.

Services were Monday.

Survivors include her husband of 72 years, Roland N. Shaffer, a retired Towson University maintenance supervisor; a son, Hugh N. Shaffer of Manchester; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
