The Sidebar Tavern

The Sidebar truly is an anomaly. Because of its location, doctors, lawyers and the City Hall crowd drink there after work, but the joint also brings in locally and nationally touring punk and hardcore acts at night.

Where -- 218 E. Lexington St., 410-659-4130

Web site -- sidebartavern.com.

Notable -- Paper fliers new and old are taped to holey walls painted a cross between dark green and gray. The place is only one floor, and holds a legal max of 90 people. You come out smelling like smoke even if people aren't smoking inside.

Vibe -- There's a surreal span between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. when the upscalers haven't left and the tattooed start filtering in.

What to wear -- You can get away with pretty much anything at the Sidebar during the day, but you might get a few looks if you show up for an evening punk show in a button-down shirt.

Crowd -- Both sides of the coin, depending on what time of day it is.

Music -- Coming shows include Waiting for Evangeline, Question Mark Zero, Bag of Humans, Puddle and the Blackout Shoppers.
