Evan Young, Broadneck


STATS -- Young, a goalkeeper, has played a major role in the Bruins' run to the Class 4A state playoffs and a 15-2-1 record. Through 17 games, the senior made 78 saves and allowed just 10 goals, an .886 save percentage. Young has seven shutouts this season.

SIDELINES -- Bruins coach Sean Tettemer says that "Evan's development over the last few weeks of the season has taken our team to a higher level defensively." Young, who has been a goalie since third grade, also plays lacrosse for the Bruins and hopes to play both sports in college. Colleges showing interest in him include Belmont Abbey, Colorado, Washington and Roanoke. Young, whose father, Kirk Young, played soccer at Maryland, also snowboards and wakeboards. He has a 3.76 grade point average.


Kelly Lynch, Severna Park


STATS -- Lynch was the Class 4A-3A state champion this fall. The junior had shot a 75 over 18 holes when the second day of competition was rained out at College Park. Lynch had the top scoring average in Anne Arundel County for boys and girls at 2.6-over par and won the county and district titles.

SIDELINES -- Coach Paul Pellicani said he noticed Lynch as a freshman and said, "Kelly has placed in counties, districts and states all three years and was extremely consistent this year." Lynch, a member of Chartwell Country Club, said she was more focused on winning this year and hopes to earn a college scholarship. A member of the school's National Honor Society and French Club, Lynch has a 3.75 grade point average and is ranked 86th in her junior class of 507.
