2004 Attems Pinot Grigio, Collio ($18)

November 16, 2005|By MICHAEL DRESSER

This is a big cut above the typical Italian pinot grigio - a white-wine variety that tends toward neutrality when produced in mass quantities. The Attems, from Northeastern Italy, is a full-bodied, complex wine with layers of almond and hazelnut flavor and touches of lemon, apple and vanilla. This wine puts most chardonnays around this price to shame.

Serve with --salmon, ham, cream sauces
