32 organizations get Casey grants

November 13, 2005|BY A SUN REPORTER

The Annie E. Casey Foundation has awarded grants to 32 local organizations to provide direct services to vulnerable children and families in the coming year.

Among the grant winners are Goodwill Industries of the Chesapeake for its Waverly Family Center, where young single mothers receive preparation for the General Educational Development diploma, and the Fresh Start Program at the Living Classrooms Foundation for a 40-week job training program for adjudicated youth.

Now in its 11th year, the nonprofit foundation's Baltimore Direct Services Grants support a wide range of community projects.

The program is administered by the Associated Black Charities and awards grants based on potential benefits and success. Grant recipients receive between $2,000 and $20,000 for one year.
