Harbor Hospital has support groups

Harbor Hospital offers the following support groups:

Adult Day Care Center, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sunday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., medical day care for frail elderly and mentally handicapped adults. 410-350-8260.

Lung Cancer Support Group, at 7 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month, for those with lung cancer diagnoses and their families. LifeResource Center Library. 410-350-3163.

Arm-in-Arm, third Tuesdays, 7 p.m., for breast cancer patients and their families, LifeResource Center Library. 410-987-4316.

Bay Bridge Breathers, Noon, second Mondays, for people with emphysema, chronic bronchitis and pulmonary fibrosis, LifeResource Center Auditorium.

Harbor Hikers, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., informal walk-on-your- own program for people seeking heart-healthy exercise, with free blood pressure screenings every Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., the Centre at Glen Burnie.

Marley Milers, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. daily, informal walk-on-your own program, Marley Station.

Medical center offers activities

Anne Arundel Medical Center will be offering the following activities:

Thursday, Dec. 15, and Jan. 19, 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., power walk through Westfield Shopping Town Annapolis Mall. Participants will receive a free blood pressure screening and health information.

Dec. 6, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., introduction to Reiki class, showing how to reduce stress and pain, second floor Sajak Pavilion. Fee: $25. 800-636-8773.

County clinics offer free flu vaccines

The county Health Department will offer flu vaccinations to county residents.

Free injectable and nasal spray vaccines will be available, but the department would appreciate donations of $20. Medicare Part B will cover the $20 donation; Medicaid cards will be required.

Vaccinations are recommended for high-priority groups, such as people age 65 and older; those with chronic medical conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer and HIV/AIDS; children 6 months to 23 months; pregnant women; health care personnel who provide direct patient care; and out-of-home caregivers of children younger than 6 months old.

Flu clinics are scheduled for:

Tomorrow, Anne Arundel Community College, Cade Building, Ritchie Highway, Arnold, noon to 3 p.m.

Wednesday, Glen Burnie Improvement Association, Crain Highway and First Avenue, Glen Burnie, 9 a.m. to noon, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Nov. 21, Severn Fire Station, 7860 Telegraph Road, Severn, 9 a.m. to noon, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

CPR, first aid classes offered by Red Cross

Courses in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid have been scheduled for this month at sites in Anne Arundel County by American Red Cross of Central Maryland. They include:

Adult CPR, teaching emergency action principles, rescue breathing, anti-choking procedure and rescue for victims age 8 and older. It is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Stanton Community Center in Annapolis.

Adult, infant and child CPR, including rescue breathing, clearing an obstructed airway and one-rescuer CPR. The class will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Stanton Community Center. The cost is $45.

All courses are on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration with payment is required before the first class. Information: 410-624-2060.

Screenings, exhibits set at Arundel Mills

Baltimore Washington Medical Center has scheduled screenings and exhibits at its Arundel Mills storefront:

Tomorrow, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., blood pressure screenings.

Thursday, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., blood pressure and lung capacity screenings.

Nov. 21, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., county Department of Aging to offer information on services.

Nov. 28, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., blood pressure screenings.

Nov. 29, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., foot screenings. Information: 410-787-4367.

Medical center schedules services

Baltimore Washington Medical Center will offer activities and screenings at various locations.

Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., free nutritional information for cancer patients, family members and caregivers. Free, but reservations required.

Tuesday, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., University of Maryland Center for weight management and wellness offers a free seminar on surgical and medical approaches to weight loss in the Courtney Conference Center, lower level, Tate Center. Reservations are required. 877- UMMSFIT.

Wednesday, 4 p.m., free educational session on hip and knee replacement, Courtney Conference Center. Reservations. 410-553-8282.
