Wise, Isabella Stoney

ISABELLA STONEY WISE of Charlottesville, Virginia died at her home on November 7, 2005. Daughter of Arthur Jervey Stoney and Anne English Montague, Mrs. Wise was married to Charles Parmele Wise for almost 50 years until his death in 2000. Mrs. Wise is survived by her sister Connie Mason of Annisquam, Massachusetts, five children and nine grandchildren: Betsy (Jim and James) Fernald and Pam (Max and Maggie) Scott of Charlottesville; Holly Wise (Robin, Alex, Ian, and Eliza Phillips) of Arlington, Virginia; Charlie (Kate, Virginia and George) Wise of Wilmette, Illinois; and Rob (Sarah and Gus) Wise of Richmond, Virginia. In addition to raising a family and volunteer work, Mrs. Wise worked for the Easter Seals in Connecticut and served as marketing manager for Waverly Press in Baltimore, Maryland. Born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina, Mrs. Wise attended Ashley Hall in Charleston, St. Anne's School in Charlottesville, Radcliffe College and the College of Charleston. In her retirement she enjoyed meetings of the Charlottesville Committee for Foreign Relations, and was active with the Newcomers Club. Mrs. Wise was an avid reader and found joy in her garden. She was an accomplished sailor and loved theater and travel. She went on safari in Kenya, made trips to Bermuda and Barbados, and most recently visited England with her daughter and granddaughter. She will be remembered for her sharp wit and the best mango chutney ever made. A memorial service to celebrate Isabella's life will be held at the Church of Our Savior in Charlottesville on Friday, November 25, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. Hill and Wood Funeral Home is assisting the family.
