THE QUESTION

With yet another version of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice set to reach Baltimore today, we wonder: Is it merely the ultimate chick-film material or is there something universal about the story that keeps directors and actors lining up?

WHAT YOU SAY

I wonder if the remake of Pride and Prejudice is less a "chick flick" and more of a classic and a period film. With such films as Master and Commander, Alexander, Troy, Tom Sawyer, etc. I think classic stories are the new "fad" movies. People may be tired of imagining what the future might look like, i.e., Matrix (one of my favorites), I, Robot, and The Day After Tomorrow, etc., and instead are going back in time.

THE NEXT QUESTION

We've got the sixth new face in James Bond's tuxedo (blond, no less). Three different actors have played Batman onscreen in recent film versions. Ice Cube smoothly stood in for Vin Diesel in a XXX sequel. So, with Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - the fourth mega-film in the series - due to hit theaters next Friday, we wonder: Could any other actor wear Daniel Radcliffe's cloak? Please send your thoughts in a brief note with your name, city and daytime phone number (and "Such a Critic" in the memo field) to arts@baltsun.com.
