A woman and her grandson were killed yesterday afternoon in a head-on collision near Parkton in northern Baltimore County, Baltimore County police said.

About 3 p.m., Jessica Crumpler, 19, of the 20300 block of Downes Road in Parkton was driving a 1998 GMC Jimmy sport utility vehicle south on York Road near Beetree Road when it crossed a double-yellow line at the crest of a rise and collided with a northbound 1988 Chevrolet Nova, killing both occupants of the Nova, said Sgt. Vickie Warehime, a police spokeswoman.

Pronounced dead at the scene were the driver of the Nova, Audrey Baseman, 72, and her grandson, Joseph Baseman, 14, both of the 19800 block of Old York Road in White Hall.

The teenager attended Hereford High School, Warehime said.

She said the woman had picked up her grandson moments earlier at school and was heading home when the crash occurred.

Crumpler was flown by helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where she was reported in serious condition.

The accident is under investigation, Warehime said.
