Numbers-- U.S. employers added a net 56,000 jobs in October, the Labor Department said, short of the 100,000 gain predicted by economists.

Tip of the Week - Job candidates have room to negotiate

When jobs are offered candidates, it's not unusual for managers to receive counteroffers. Not only is pay the target of some negotiations but benefits and conditions of employment are increasingly being discussed. Other items often negotiated include: relocation costs; early reviews with the option for salary increases; signing bonuses; flexible work schedules, and sabbatical and vacation leave. Time off for family or other pursuits may have a high priority.
