Engroff, Erna Marie Amelia

On October 28, 2005, ERNA ENGROFF, 91, a longtime resident of Towson, passed away peacefully at Mountain Heights Health Care Facility in Patten, ME after a long illness. Erna was born in Baltimore on June 17, 1914, to Richard and Louisa Schneider, who owned and operated the first Barber School in the city. The family moved to Baker Avenue, in Catonsville in 1921. Erna graduated from Catonsville High School in 1931. She then attended Beauty School, and was a Hairdresser in Baltimore for many years. June 25, 1938, she married Henry L. Engroff, who died in 1971. They lived in Catonsville until moving in 1953 to Piccadilly Road in Towson, where she lived for 44 years and raised her family. In 1997, she moved to Patten, ME. She is survived by a son Dr. Richard Engroff and his wife Peggy Cochran Engroff, of Patten and daughter, Nancy Gould and her husband Dr. W. Michael Gould, of Severna Park. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Dr. Stephen Engroff, of State College, PA, Daniel Engroff, of Manchester, NH, Dr. Abigail Hughes, of Portsmouth, NH, Rebecca Engroff, of Bangor, ME, Kristin Drake, of Raleigh, NC and Bill Gould, of Hagerstown, MD. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, a sister, Hildegard Hahn, of Catonsville, MD and a niece Hildegard Suter, of Ellicott City, and a nephew, Edward Hahn, of Poughkeepsie, NY. Family will receive friends at the WITZKE FUNERAL HOME OF CATONSVILLE, INC., on Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 P.M., where services will be held on Friday at 10 A.M. Interment in Lorraine Park Cemetery. The family suggests memorial gifts may be given to The Star Community, Inc., 13757 Broadfording Church Road, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
