Friends tops Severn in semis, 3-2

Louis Weeks' two assists helped power host Friends over Severn, 3-2, yesterday in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association B Conference boys soccer semifinals.

Max Davis broke a scoreless tie just five minutes into the game to give the Quakers (14-1-1) the early lead. Severn's Brendan Murphy tied the game at 1 with 12 minutes to go in the half.

However, Friends struck again early in the second half on a Jake Mendelson score.

Minutes later, Brian DeSmit volleyed a goal past Admirals keeper Carter Loetz, giving the Quakers the lead for good.

The victory sealed their spot in Saturday's championship game against St. Mary's.

"We started the season against St. Mary's and we lost, 2-0. They were prepared back then, and we know they'll be ready for another good game," said Quakers Coach Doug Desmit.

The game will be at 5:15 p.m. at UMBC.

St. Mary's 2, Boys' Latin 1 -- Brian White scored the game-winner in double overtime off an Alex Bogan assist. Bogan also scored earlier in the game for the host Saints (15-5).
