Opening statements are to begin today in Harford County Circuit Court in the murder trial of Frank Vernon Rainey Jr. of Oxon Hill, who is accused of killing his former girlfriend in May. Police said Rainey, 28, gave a statement on the shooting of Edgewood resident Crystal Marie Busta, 26, who was found dead in Rainey's father's car from a gunshot to the head. Police said Busta was killed after she decided to end a months-long relationship that began on the Internet. Rainey is charged with first-degree murder, illegal possession of a firearm and two counts of using a handgun to commit a felony or violent crime. Prosecutors are seeking life without parole.
