Orioles sign eight to minor league contracts

Six played in O's minor leagues in 2005

The Orioles today announced that they have signed eight players to minor league contracts for the 2006 season.

Right-handed pitcher Sendy Rleal, right-handed pitcher Marino Salas, left-handed pitcher Scott Rice, left-handed pitcher Carlos Jan, lefthanded pitcher Jason Pearson and shortstop Ed Rogers were each signed to minor league deals. All six played in the Orioles minor league system this past year. Pearson pitched in five games for Double-A Bowie over the last week of the season after appearing in 14 games for Double-A Portland in the Boston organization.

Rogers was outrighted following the season and elected free agency. He appeared in 8 games for the Orioles in September, his first major league appearances since 2002. He homered in his only at-bat for the Birds and also pinch-ran in 7 games. In 125 games at Triple-A Ottawa, Rogers batted .262 with 7 home runs and 48 RBI.

The Orioles also signed first baseman Leo Daigle and outfielder Noah Hall from the Chicago White Sox. Daigle, 26, spent most of the season with Single-A Winston-Salem and won the Carolina League Triple Crown, batting .341 with 29 home runs and 112 RBI in 108 games for the Warthogs. He also hit .220 with 2 home runs and 8 RBI in 25 games for Triple-A Charlotte. Hall, 28, batted .332 with 26 home runs and 92 RBI in 120 games for Winston-Salem.
