Unknown man shot dead in Northwood

An unidentified man was shot late Sunday behind a house in the city's Northwood area and died early yesterday at an area hospital, city police said.

Northeastern District officers responding to a call about shots fired in the rear of the 4400 block of Marble Hall Road shortly before midnight Sunday found the man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, said Officer Nicole Monroe, a police spokeswoman.

Monroe said the man was taken by ambulance to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he died about an hour later. Homicide detectives knew of no motive or suspect.

Teen charged in crop damage

A 19-year-old Westminster man is accused of driving his pickup truck through five farm fields, damaging crops and leaving ruts in the soil, officials said. Kevin Michael McLaren of the 100 block of Bond St. is charged with five counts of malicious destruction of property and reckless and negligent driving, according to a statement of charges by Cpl. Mark Tausen of the Carroll County Sheriff's Office. The farm fields lie between Westminster and New Windsor. The reported damage Oct. 25 included 2 1/2 acres of alfalfa, a barley field, 2 acres of hay, and 150 bushels of beans. The farmers also have to replow the fields.
