Man charged in abduction attempt

A Sykesville man has been charged with attempting to abduct a woman from a Howard County supermarket parking lot Thursday night. The woman, whose name was not released, said she was loading groceries into her car about 10 p.m. in the Waverly Woods shopping center when a man approached from behind and tried to force her into her car, according to Howard police. She said she fought him off, and he fled in a red pickup truck as witnesses took the tag number, police said. Ralph Marion Debaufre Jr., 50, of the 6500 block of White Road was arrested Saturday in Anne Arundel County and charged with false imprisonment, attempted kidnapping, reckless endangerment and first- and second-degree assault, police said. He was being held on $100,000 bond.

Man, 28, dies after being shot in hip

A 28-year-old man died yesterday after being shot in the hip by an unknown assailant on a street in West Baltimore, police said. Western District officers responding to a report of a man shot in the 800 block of N. Fulton Ave. about 2:30 a.m. found Daryl Davis of the 2400 block of Frederick Ave. bleeding from at least one wound to the right hip. Davis was taken by ambulance to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he died about eight hours later, said Agent Donny Moses, a police spokesman. An autopsy by the state medical examiner's office was set for today, police said.
