Edna Eckley Lankford, who for decades worked as a secretary for the E. Churchill Murray Insurance Agency in Annapolis, died of Alzheimer's disease Thursday at a retirement home in Easton. She was 86 and had lived in Annapolis.

Born Edna Earl Perrie in Lothian, she graduated from Anne Arundel County's Southern High School in 1936. Soon after, she started at the insurance agency.

After her retirement, she worked part time as an administrative assistant at the Naval Academy and for the state legislature.

In 1954, she married Wayne F. Eckley, a professor of nuclear physics at the Naval Academy who died in 1988. She married Richard E. Lankford in 1990. He died in 2003.

Mrs. Lankford was a member of many organizations, including the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, the central committee of the Maryland House and Garden Pilgrimage, and the Historic Annapolis Foundation.

She raised orchids and, in 20 years, never missed a home game of the Baltimore Colts, her family said.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. James' Episcopal Church in Lothian.

She is survived by 10 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
