On October 26, 2005, BARBARA A. (Mallen) MAUTON of Columbia, MD, formerly of Plattsburg, MO, died at a Columbia Hospice. Born in Plattsburg, MO., to James E. and Esther (Reardon) Mallen. Barbara attended St. Brendan's Parochial School in Plattsburg and later graduated from Plattsburg High School. She was a graduate of St. Mary's School of Nursing in Kansas City, MO., and she was the Clinic Nursing Supervisor at the Smithville, MO., Hospital Clinic for 13 years. She attended advance training for Coronary Intensive Care Treatment and was a Coronary Intensive Nurse for a number of years. Barbara was a member of the St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Columbia, Maryland. On April 17, 1967 she married Clifford J. Mauton of Smithville, MO., who made his career with the United States Armed Forces and they were stationed in many places such as California, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska and Germany, finally settling on Columbia, MD, where she passed away. Her parents and sister Julia Hartzell preceded her in death. Survivors a include her husband Clifford of the home; 1 son Clifford J. "Jody" Mauton, Jr, of Washington, D.C., 5 sisters Nellie Zimmerman of Wichita, KS., Pauline Gump, Ilene Clark and Patricia Mallen all of Plattsburg, MO., and Genelle West of Bethany, MO., 2 brothers John Mallen of Plattsburg, MO., and Jim "Mick" Mallen of Kanawha, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday November 2, 2005 at the St. Ann's Catholic Church, Plattsburg, MO. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Plattsburg, MO. A parish Rosary will be recited on Tuesday November 1, 2005 at 7;00 P.M. With visitation following until 8:30 P.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorial gifts to the American Cancer Society or the Hospice of Baltimore, 6601 N. Charles St., Baltimore, MD., 21204.
