Halloween at Homewood School

Lions Club International, New Spirit Community Church and BW Eye Care will sponsor a "Sight Night Trunk or Treat" from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. today at the Homewood School, 10914 Route 108, in Ellicott City.

A cake walk and decorated car trunks filled with Halloween treats are planned for the children, who will go from trunk to trunk to collect the goodies.

Those who attend are asked to bring old eyeglasses to donate to the Gift of Sight Foundation.

Library salutes Veterans Day

The Elkridge library will hold a Veterans Day program, "Old Men in Blue and Gray: Maryland's Civil War Veterans," at 7 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Elkridge Senior Center, 6540 Washington Blvd.

Local author and historian Daniel C. Toomey will give a slide presentation about veterans' organizations of the Union and Confederate armies in Maryland; he will show uniforms, badges and reunion memorabilia.

Catholic school plans open house

Our Lady of Perpetual Help School will hold its fall open house from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 9.

Prospective parents will have an opportunity to meet Principal Nancy F. Malloy, walk through classes in session, and tour school facilities. Light beverages and snacks will be served.

The Catholic elementary school is at 4801 Ilchester Road, Ellicott City.

Christmas bazaar at the firehouse

The Elkridge Volunteer Fire Department will hold its "Christmas at the Station" craft show from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the fire hall, 6275 Old Washington Road, Elkridge.

Twenty-five artisans will display and sell their work. Santa will arrive at 11 a.m.

Bridge, pinochle -- Kiwanis Wallas Recreation Center will offer free drop-in bridge sessions from 9:30 a.m. to noon Wednesdays and pinochle sessions from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays. 410-313-7279.

Benefit concert -- Elkridge Elementary School and Elkridge Landing Middle School will sponsor a concert, "Now's the Time," to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
