County public schools seeking volunteers

School volunteers are essential in adequately educating the county's youth.

The Carroll County public school system uses volunteers' services, time and encouragement to allow educators to implement knowledge and strategies.

The students benefit through additional support and encouragement to strive to reach their highest potential.

The volunteer program in the public schools uses the talents of all interested citizens. To ensure that participants are adequately trained, volunteers are required to attend an annual training session before beginning a task or acting as a chaperone.

Training is offered throughout the school year at each Carroll school as well as throughout the county.

In addition, all chaperones involved in overnight trips or activities will be required to submit a background check at least 30 days before the scheduled activity.

Anyone wishing to volunteer can call the training coordinator at 410-386-1536.

Carroll County public schools -- will close two hours and 45 minutes early Wednesday for elementary school pupils. Schools will be closed for half-time kindergarten pupils. 410-751-3020.
