Victims' Fund Run scheduled Saturday

The state's attorney's office and Take Back Our Streets will co-sponsor the Victims' Fund Run on Saturday at 8 a.m. starting at the Park Plaza Shopping Center in Severna Park. The 5K race and 2-mile walk along the B&A Trail will raise money to provide immediate help to crime victims in Anne Arundel County. Volunteers are needed to help on the day of the event, starting with registration at 7 a.m., handing out T-shirts, assisting with drawings and the post-race party. Information: 40-22-1740 x 389.

Salvation Army taking applications

The Salvation Army of Annapolis and Southern Anne Arundel County will take additional applications for holiday assistance on Nov. 10 and 11 at the Salvation Army Community Center, 351 Hilltop Lane, Annapolis. Applications for food, toys and clothing will be accepted between 9 a.m. and noon, and 1 p.m.- 3 p.m.

In order to apply, applicants must bring identification; proof of age; Social Security cards for everyone listed on the application; proof of household income and all expenses; and proof of current address. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Information: 410-263-4091.

Donations sought for disaster kits

The Citizens Corps Council of Anne Arundel & Annapolis and the Volunteer Center for Anne Arundel County are seeking donations to provide starter disaster kits for isolated senior and disabled residents of the county. Donations will be accepted through Nov. 28. Items needed include flashlights, battery/crank radios, extra batteries, light sticks, water bottles, nutrition bars and dust masks. Helpers of homeless look for volunteers

Happy Helpers for the Homeless, a nonprofit organization that provides food, toiletries and clothing to the hungry and homeless, is seeking volunteers for National Family Volunteer Day, Nov. 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Help prepare 1,000 sandwiches and wrap Christmas presents for people served by Happy Helpers. McFall picked as Volunteer of Year

Trudy McFall, a longtime volunteer in affordable housing, has been selected for the third annual Anne Arundel County Volunteer of the Year Award. This award is presented to the person who has demonstrated a commitment to the community. A $1,000 check will be presented to Homes for America at the Celebrate Philanthropy Luncheon on Nov. 17 at the Sheraton Annapolis Hotel. The reception is at 11:30 a.m., followed by a luncheon at noon. Tickets for the event are $40. Deadline for reservations is Nov. 14. Information: 410-266-8836.
