Gloria E. Selckmann, 77, homemaker

Gloria E. Selckmann, a homemaker and former church secretary, died of kidney failure Tuesday at Baltimore Washington Medical Center. The Arden-on-the-Severn resident was 77.

Born and raised in Baltimore, the former Gloria Elizabeth Johnston was a 1946 graduate of Towson Catholic High School and attended the Maryland General Hospital nursing school.

She was married in 1947 to William Selckmann, a printer, and lived for 45 years at Arden-on-the-Severn near Crownsville. Her husband died this year.

From 1970 until retiring in 1988, she was church secretary at Ascension Roman Catholic Church in Halethorpe. "She went to work there as a temporary and wound up staying 18 years," said a daughter, Janet A. Johnson of Glen Burnie.

Mrs. Selckmann had been an active member of the Arden Recreation Association, Arden Civic Association, Ladies of Arden, and Herald Harbor Volunteer Fire Department ladies auxiliary.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. today in the chapel of Crownsville Veterans Cemetery, 1122 Sunrise Beach Road.

Survivors also include a son, Paul T. Selckmann of Stevensville; another daughter, Karen A. Selckmann of Annapolis; and two grandchildren.
