7-year-old girl dies in accident

A 7-year-old girl died after the driver of the car in which she was riding made a left-hand turn and was struck by a pickup truck on Forest Road in Annapolis on Saturday, police said. Jayla Powell of Annapolis was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The girl's grandmother, Doris Powell of Annapolis, also was a passenger; she was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where she was hospitalized yesterday. The driver, Dorothy Hines, 81, of Arnold, was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center and was treated and released. The driver and passenger in the pickup were not injured. Police are investigating.
