Bateman to run for sheriff

October 23, 2005|BY A SUN REPORTER

The second in command at the Arundel County Sheriff's Office has announced that he will seek the top job in next year's election.

"What I am bringing to the table is experience, leadership and experience," said Ron Bateman, 44, who is running as a Democrat.

He joined the Sheriff's Office after he retired in 2003 as a captain after 23 years with the county police force. A Pasadena resident, he was chosen by fellow Democrat Sheriff George F. Johnson, who is leaving the post to run for Anne Arundel County executive.

With the rank of major in the sheriff's department, he oversees much of the day-to-day work, including budgeting and warrant service.
