ARTISTS AT WORK

Visit area artists in their studios during the Open Studio Tour Saturday and Sunday. Get a look at the lives of Baltimore artists while viewing and purchasing their work straight from their studios. Downtown studios south of North Avenue and uptown studios north of North Avenue are new to the tour this year.

The studio tour is from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. A complete list of the participating artists and their studio addresses can be found at school33.org. On the day of the event, maps and lists of participating artists can be picked up at School 33, 1427 Light St. Call 410-396-4641.

Love Baltimore seafood? Stop by the second Pier 5 Oyster Festival Sunday. Visitors can stroll around the pier, board old sailing vessels, visit educational booths and listen to live music. Fresh seafood will be for sale. An Oyster Shuck and Swallow Contest is at 5 p.m. Proceeds from the event fund the restoration of the pier's Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse.

The festival takes place from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday on the waterfront side of McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant, 711 Eastern Ave. For more information, call 410-234-1300.

SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW

This Saturday, the Walters Art Museum celebrates the 100th anniversary of its Palazzo Building and the opening of the exhibit Palace of Wonders: The New Galleries of Renaissance and Baroque Art. A children's choral group will perform during the ribbon-cutting at 9:45 a.m. Have a piece of birthday cake and enjoy the many family-oriented activities available. Docent-led tours of the exhibit will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event runs from 9:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Walters Art Museum, 600 North Charles St. For more information, call 410-547-9000 or visit thewalters.org. After this free opening, admission fees will apply.

Buck up

This Saturday and Sunday, visit Oregon Ridge for a day or two in the great outdoors. Naturalists will lead "Seeking the Buck" nature hikes. Visitors will tour the area learning about deer and looking for signs of their activity.

The hikes will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Oregon Ridge Nature Center, 13555 Beaver Dam Road in Cockeysville. Call 410-887-1815.
