Man in hospital after standoff

A man was being treated at a Harford County hospital yesterday after police used tear gas to end a seven-hour standoff at an Aberdeen home the day before, police said. The suspect's name was not released. Police said a man barricaded himself inside a home with several guns and 1,000 rounds of ammunition in the first block of Poplar Grove Ave. on Monday morning after firing shots at his wife, who told police that the couple had separated last week.

Havre de Grace

Contaminant found in 6 residential wells

The state environmental agency said yesterday that it was investigating how a chemical compound contaminated drinking-water wells in a Havre de Grace subdivision. Officials detected high levels of the probable carcinogen trichloroethane in six wells on Titan Terrace in the Glenn Estates community. Lower levels were found in several other wells. No source for the contamination has been identified, the Maryland Department of the Environment said.
