The Captain Salem Avery House in Shady Side celebrated the seventh annual West River Heritage Day and Oyster Festival on Sunday. Musical acts Them Eastport Oyster Boys, the Good Deale Bluegrass Band and the Shady Side Sour Notes entertained the crowd. There were plenty of crabcakes to go around, as well as oysters in many forms: raw, steamed, oyster stew and oyster puffs. Children took part in a tug of war, decorated pumpkins and picture frames and made a "sailor's Valentine."
